cobra internal li-po battery

I don't need one but its probably worth asking if a suitable internal 14.8v li-po battery for the 18m is obtainable in the uk, ie not necessarily cobra own battery ?

am I right in thinking the cobra battery has some added protection to it, and if so is it easily added if necessary?
ia it something simple like a resistor or capacitor etc?
